tHIS sATURDAY!

Here is the Story:
When I was contacted by Christina, (the host+brains behind this fundrasier) to participate as a donor for a cause, the minute I heard diabetes I was already in.
My grandmother has Diabetes, my uncles has diabetes, my mother-in-law has diabetes, my neighbor has it... the list goes on...
and since it runs in my family, anytime I indulge in sugary foods, there is a nagging voice in the back in my head saying:
"you want to get diabetes?"
Or when I feel light-headed and get hit with a dizzy spell (because I have a bad habit of skipping meals and overworking myself)
the nagging voice says:
"See! you might have diabetes, it runs in the family, go get checked out."

And of course, I shrug it off and continue about my day since Diabetes has been in my face since I was a child...
But that is just it, while we shrug it away, it consumes more and more of our population, and is indeed a very real problem.

So, upon hearing the cause, I was in!

I made something exclusive for the Diabetes Fundraiser taking place this Saturday and it will be raffled off!
There are also many more awesome donations being raffled off that night so let me just give you the info so you can check it out!

Who's That?! Wednesday! {No.4} Sew Beastly

Today I feature:

Creating all the way from:
Texas!

Let me introduce you:
Hello! I am Citlallimy name means "star" in Nahuatl {this is the language Aztecs used to speak}. People call me Cit, City, or Star & I am the heart and hands behind Sew Beastly....Oh!! And I believe you have already met the beast. It is a pleasure to meet you! I am a 27 year old gal who loves drinking black {muddy} coffee, nutella,
catching fish with my hands, making food in an open fire, a nice tall Guinness, bubble tea, waffle cones without ice cream, putting stuff in empty mason jars just to see it through the glass, patchouli oil, recycling, twirling around, singing the songs in my head out loud, thinking out loud, baseball, doodling. {Just to name a few}
--------> How I started:   I only took one sewing class and learned the rest myself {mainly trail and error, and a few books} I love creating with my hands.  Working with ruffles was what I loved the most when I started sewing.  I love the way they give life to any fabric....
-------> interesting fact:   I decided to quit my day job and start my own business aka pursue Sew Beastly full time! I am not going to lie and say that I am not even a bit scared about what lies ahead of me, but I do know that I have a strong will to be successful at anything I do.  I have a strong work ethic.  I know myself and what I am capable of doing when I set my mind to it.   Being a perfectionist, and being stubborn (which I always thought were my worst attributes) can become the qualities that help me get through the hard times.    I understand it is not going to be easy and that it will take my everything to be successful at owning my own business.  I also know that I love challenges and that I don't have a problem taking them head on!! So,  I am excited, hopeful, terrified, optimistic, and happy to embark in this new journey of my life. *sigh*  I think the fact that I am feeling good about all this is a great sign!!! Watch out world!!  I am feeling empowered, inspired, and ready to make the best out of this!!  Here I come!!
Now that you have met Citlalli, let me introduce you to the work that she creates! Let me start with:
the wristlet that me fall in love with her shop....
You can view the wristlet in detail HERE
Isn't it lovely? I love the way color combination of chocolate brown with a deep teal looks together! And I have to say, the ruffled rose is a beautiful accent to the design! ------>Then speaking of color: look at how many color variations she can offer one design in! I had a hard time choosing which one was my favorite because of the variety of colors offered and how I imagined a different outfit with each one!
You can view the entire wristlet collection HERE
-------> And last but not least: I really like Sew Beastly's "OBNOXIOUS" Collection! No, not because I generally take a fancy to obnoxious (but I do sometimes) but instead because I take a fancy to bright colors! Like this yellow handmade flower she contrasted against the calmness of the gray in this clutch! Love it!
You can view this clutch in detail HERE

I hope you enjoyed meeting Citlalli and her lovely shop: Sew Beastly!  & if you did there is a Sweet Deal you should know about, especially since the Holiday season is around the corner!

Truth Tuesday {No.1}

Hola! Today, I am joining my girl
Nina on the Moon in her project:
where she asks that whomever wants to participate to share a specific truth, big or small, scary or not.. so here I go...

Truth is: I hate checking voicemail so much that I haven't heard yours or yours... or yours either...
I'm sorry if it was an emergency, I am sorry if I was supposed to call back "asap"... and honestly,  I don't know what I have against checking voicemail in particular, all I know is it is extremely rare when I do take a moment to listen to a voicemail... if you were to look through my phone, you'd see I haven't heard a voicemail in the past few months...and it's nothing personal, per say, it's just... well, I wish I could explain why beyond my: "I just don't like to" but I can't.
           That is just it-
                  that is the truth-
                   I hate checking voicemail.

So what if it is an emergency you ask? Well, text me. email me. send me a message on etsy or facebook... but please, please, don't leave me a voicemail as it kinda irritates me and has a 99% chance it won't get heard, I'm just being honest, afterall, it's truth tuesday here.

:)
Thank you for stopping by today!
Have a wonderful week!

xo!

what is your truth?

Sunday FUNday {No.4} Thrift Store!

Hi! Hola!
It is that time of week!
Sunday FUNday No.4 was hosted at one my favorite places to explore:
the Thrift Store!

My favorite part of today was definitely how my friend kept getting stuck in dresses every time she tried them on, I kept telling her to put them on feet first but she insisted on over the head. AND I couldn't help but take pics of her trapped in the lime green prom dress!

I like my Sunday Funday weekly posts to be completely organic and usually go with my first instinct that drives me that day...and today I was driven by a goal to get my hands on a pair of 90s style overalls- (I know, I know, I'll explain later)... so I called up my friend Mary and we headed over to the thrift store to see what fun we could find...
haha, looks part of my grill (teeth)

Red+Round Toe+Steve Madden's=1/2 a size too big, boo!

we found stuff alright!
Including Vintage Dresses we couldn't resist trying on and walking around in! After all, we were in it for the fun.

Now I know I am not the only one that gets stuck in dresses!
scarf anyone?
Some dresses just have that Cinderella appeal..
fur coat= instant glamor

spice rack anyone?
you should know: this is the little boy section and THAT is a little boy SIZE shirt!

fell for this scarf: only $4.

she comes in peace...I think..
I decided I needed these Black Leather gloves in my life.

So what started this Thrift Store mission today was to search & locate a pair of 90s overalls.... I looked through the women sections, kids section & even men's section and couldn't find a pair! Looks like I'll have to keep searching... and when I do, I'll let you know what I am up to with those.

Thank you for stopping by & checking out this week's Sunday FUNday!

Have a wonderful week everyone!
& a special thank you to my friend for being such a great sport to have some fun at the thrift with me today!

t'was a Sunday FUNday indeed!

xo!

Who's That?! Wednesday! {No.3} Kay em Kay

Today I feature:

Creating all the way from:
California!

Here is what Kasey says about her creative process: "I have been a self taught seamstress full time since Nov. 2009. I work mainly with vintage patterns that have been altered for better fit and modern lines. I have gleamed most of my know-how from youtube videos, DIY blogs, deconstructing vintage and immersion. I sew nearly every day. My inspiration comes from fashion blogs, anthropologie, vintage clothing and my stash of McCall's magazines. I love flattering silhouettes; wiggle dresses to the basic shift. I desire to make basic pieces for a wardrobe that will last year after year.
And this is the dress that me fall in love with her shop....
dress can be viewed in detail HERE

I am a huge fan of back exposures and peek-a-boo designs that feature the back in a unique way.. & I love how this is a relaxed vintage design with a heart shape adorning the back!

Sleeveless Heart Vintage Dress can be viewed in Detail HERE

Best part is: Her shop carries the vintage design dress with the heart cut-out in the back in various colors and she also offers it with sleeves or sleeveless,--->fit for multiple preferences or seasons!

The next dress that hooked me was another one of her vintage design dresses with a star cut-out in the back! (this one is actually on sale in her shop, check it out!)

And if that wasn't enough, Kasey also designs winter jackets! Just in time for the winter season here in Chicago! :)
