DIY: Melted Crayon Art!

So, I saw this on Pinterest and HAD to try it! I knew my son would love it and so we headed to the craft store after school yesterday and picked up the supplies to get some art-making on! :)
I have seen a dozen versions of this DIY and it is almost always in a rainbow arrangement, and although I like the way the rainbow design looks melted, I decided to allow my son to pick out the colors he wanted and arrange them in any order he wanted to instead. :) I knew I ran the risk if it all turning brown... but wanted to give it a try anyway.

 I melted the crayons until the tips were gone and we decided that was good enough... and yey! Didn't turn out all brown, I found if you point the heat gun downward, the crayons melt in streaks... so you are still able to see some cool color definition in the melted chaos of this art project.

 Overall, it was pretty fun and we were pretty happy with the project! It didn't take long either, around 30min from start to finish and adds fun home-made art to any room! We decided to give the gold fish some eye candy and jazz up the white wall in our bathroom. I am pretty sure you will have fun making this! I say experiment and see what you come up with! :)

 Let me know what you think and if you decide to try it!

Thanks for stopping by today- have a great week!

Outfit Post:: Navajo Print Poncho

Outfit Confessionals:::
  • It appears I have "a thing" for tribal print lately. I can spot it all the way across the room in a store and know I need it in my life... This particular combination of colors on the poncho are my fav too! So, it was no wonder I broke my "I am not buying anything for myself today, only buying the kid some clothes" rule when I walked past this poncho laying neatly folded on the table in h&m... I was there to buy my son pants not myself anything, cause' let's face it: until I can make time to clean out my closet and donate half the crap in it, I really shouldn't add anything to it... (this is the hardest (self-imposed)rule for me to follow despite the logic it is soaked in). Anyway, the way I justified it was like this: "I NEED this poncho."
  • Ok, so I love it, I use the poncho all the time, especially to cuddle up on the couch and do some work on the laptop, this poncho has been my alternative to a sweater... and I can be found wandering around my house like the crazy poncho lately and I am ok with that. :)
  • Oh, got these boots 60% off the jcpenny website. I don't ever shop JCPenny BUT, I was shopping for a beginner's watch (with minute and hours printed on the watch hands) for my son who is learning to tell time... and we found a cool Iron Man watch on the jcpenny website.... then of course, I clicked on the "sale" tab and saw these boots for 60% off. I repeat 60% OFF! I love end of the season sales! :) The side zipper on the outside of the boot are fun too. When you find cool boots for 60% OFF it is a good day.
  • oh and yes, I am aware that I was shopping for the kid and not myself when I found these two items, but when opportunity presents itself, one must snag it. :) xo.

Truth is {No.12}Embrace the Imperfection

Some days I wake up wearing imperfection-radar lenses.
I mean, I can walk around the entire day and only see
what is not going right,
what is flawed---> how I am flawed...
and am just my own biggest critic,
especially lately.
Well, enough of that!
 Amy from A is for Ampersand has declared February the month of self-love and I am joining in on the self-love revolution.

 because life is too short to go through it hating yourself.

 Truth is: I am not perfect.
I am a work in progress and learning to love the imperfections more each day.

Besides, I imagine perfection to be somewhat bitter tasting & the sticky stuff fairy-tales are made of anyway.

Love yo'self.

Audrey Hepburn Tales

I'll admit it, I feel in love with Audrey Hepburn when I saw her in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" I liked her defiant nature that was dipped in sweetness and how she stood her ground and refused to name her cat. I then ventured into a fun Audrey Hepburn film marathon with my mom and each friday, we'd cuddle with some popcorn and watch another film starring Audrey, I grew to absolutely adore her... so it is no wonder I find myself drawn to create jewelry inspired by Audrey Hepburn, I can't help it: her elegance fascinates me.

 Then I found a quote of hers that I fell in love with and it is: "Nothing is Impossible, The word itself says "I'm Possible" Um, how clever and inspirational is that? made me love her more :) So I put.it.on.metal.

 I can't help it, like I mentioned before: I love her and am fascinated by her elegance. :)

Braids to the Rescue! {An Up-do Hairstyle}

You don't have to be an excellent french-braider to accomplish this up-do, you just have to know how to get by when french braiding and that will do! :)
This up-do has rescued me from many of "bad-hair" days, infact, I am wearing it today again for the 4th time this week. Once you get the hang of it, you can do this in about 10min--> so its quick, fun and can be dressed up or down. Hope you like it!
Let's get started:

 4. Braid one side, secure with hair band.
5. Braid the other side and BOOM, the braiding is done and we are ready to move on.

 I usually add flowers to my hair, but at this point you can either:
  • choose to leave the up-do as is.
  • play with making a braided bun and secure it with bobby pins.
  • OR add any type of hair accessories you prefer:  a bow, feathers, ribbon, etc.
**In this up-do I snipped some purple (fake) flowers from a bouquet I picked up at the craft store.

Whichever way YOU choose to complete the look is up to you, but the end result is:

I like this up-do because it takes around 10minutes to finish, (depending on your braiding practice) and can be dressed up or down to be be worn for a casual day, or fancy day :)

Hope you enjoyed this and try it out!
